A start-to-finish installation of a bespoke indoor swimming pool and luxury spa area, executed in collaboration with one of the UK's premier high-end pool companies.
Project Overview
We collaborated with one of the UK's premier high-end pool companies to execute a flawless, start-to-finish installation of a bespoke indoor swimming pool and luxury spa area. From the raw structural phase to the final high-polish finish, this project demanded the highest standards of waterproofing, structural preparation, and specialised large-format tiling.
The Challenge
This subterranean pool build presented a complex set of challenges. The pool shell required precision rendering to produce perfectly level, plumb surfaces capable of supporting heavy large-format stoneware. Advanced multi-layer waterproofing had to be applied across the entire pool tank and surrounding wet areas, followed by rigorous static water testing to guarantee absolute structural integrity before any tile could be laid. Handling ultra-large format panels (1200mm × 3600mm at just 6mm thickness) in a confined underground space demanded specialised vacuum equipment and meticulous planning.
The Process
Preparation & Rendering
The pool shell and surrounding spa deck were precision-rendered to ensure perfectly level, plumb surfaces. This critical foundation phase guaranteed that every subsequent layer — waterproofing, adhesive, and tile — would bond correctly and remain structurally sound for decades.
Waterproofing & Testing
Advanced multi-layer waterproofing systems were applied across the entire pool tank and all wet areas. Rigorous static water testing followed to guarantee absolute structural integrity before any tiling commenced. The Schlüter-DITRA uncoupling membrane was installed around the pool deck perimeter for additional waterproof protection.
Specialised Large-Format Tiling
Ultra-large format panels (1200mm × 3600mm at 6mm thickness) were handled with specialised vacuum equipment to create stunning, continuous wall panels with minimal grout lines. Structural floor tiles (900mm × 900mm at 12mm thickness) were perfectly graded and laid across the pool deck, internal tank, and integrated steps for a durable, slip-resistant finish.
Finishing Touches
Sleek under-rim LED lighting was integrated throughout the pool and spa areas. Concealed flush-mount safety covers, automated pool cover tracks, and pristine stone coping edges were installed. The spa area received recessed ambient lighting, premium coat hooks, and a glass-enclosed steam room enclosure to complete the luxury wellness experience.
The Result
A breathtaking, subterranean wellness sanctuary featuring a glowing turquoise pool, integrated step acoustics, and a seamless minimalist aesthetic. The combination of expert waterproofing and masterful large-format tiling ensures this luxury installation will perform as beautifully as it looks for decades to come. The adjacent spa area, complete with ambient LED cove lighting and a glass-enclosed steam room, transforms the space into a private five-star retreat.
